Mike Etgen drove the bus for a high school football team experiencing what sports people call "a rebuilding year." On the bus he saw something so gracious for a team that won while losing. Mike told the story at the September 6, 2018 Story Night, when the theme was "sport."

Some pretty big news isn't reason for Scott Park to put away the bike yet. Scott told this story at the June 2018 Story Night when the theme was "flight." It's worth noting that Scott is still biking, evidenced by the photos on his Facebook profile this week.

Thank you for listening. We look forward to hearing your story.

87: Johanna Baxter — Flying with Nolan

baseball2.jpg

It's yet another baseball story, kind of. Johanna Baxter was on a plane with a legend, not to mention her ex-husband. The kids didn't care, and Johanna didn't know much about the supposed legend.

It was something noteworthy in Texas.

Thank you for listening. We look forward to hearing your story.

Alicia Morales wanted to see Newsboys in concert, but was 14 and didn't have the money. A local radio station was willing to send someone. Mom made sure she got there without the danger that happens in the city on Halloween.

Alicia told this story on July 5, 2018 at Story Night when the theme was "Winning."

Thank you for listening. We look forward to hearing your story.

Thank you for listening. We look forward to hearing your story.

Nessa Goldman doesn't like bugs. She clarifies that a little bit up front, but gives us all the more reason to believe her. Nessa told this story about a botfly from Belize at our Story Night in April when the theme was "Taxed."

After listening to the story, if you're interested, check out a YouTube video of a woman having botfly larvae removed, if you think you can stomach that.

I'm not positive the insect pictured here is an actual botfly, but place I got it from said it was. Even if it isn't, do you want that thing visiting you?

The song for this episode is "The Passenger" by Iggy Pop.

Thank you for listening. We look forward to hearing your story.

The theme that night was "Obsession"

Thank you for listening. We look forward to hearing your story.

Here's the trigger warning. If your kids are around while you're listening to this, you might get asked a question you're not prepared to answer. Know what I mean? Wink, wink, nudge, nudge, say no more. Jeanne' Sparks was exhausted from being a mom of three and got away to Vegas with her husband to have the kind of fun adults have when they get away from their children. She brought an accessory that earned some attention on the way home.

Jeanne' told her story at the April 5 Story Night when the theme was "taxed."

Thank you for listening. We look forward to hearing your story.

74: Steven Gardner — A Stupid Story About a Beard that Meant Too Much

challenge, goal, Story Night, storytelling, Bremerton

The only reason this story seemed relevant for the podcast was because it was timely and reflected another challenge we're undertaking. We're moving. This move was 90 percent necessary. As much as we're moving into a new home, we're moving into a new situation that represents growth for us. So, I've been working steadily in any spare moment I had in the last few weeks making this house in Silverdale emptier and the one in our new place fuller. As of this post we're a few days away from spending the first night in our new place. A new chapter, to borrow a cliche.

Thanks for indulging me. The story was off the cuff, clearly unplanned and probably touched on something few people cared about. I hope you could at least relate. Surely, there's a beard in your life.

The song for this episode is You're My Home by Billy Joel.

Thank you for listening. We look forward to hearing your story.

Craig Gurney took the invitation to sing and gave us a couple of parodies at Story Night in December, when the theme was "Soundtrack." The songs are charming reinventions of two popular songs. The music for this episode comes from The Beatles, the original version of Rocky Raccoon.

Below you can watch a sweet cover of Rocky Raccoon by someone calling herself Sofia Fakelastname.

Thank you for listening. We look forward to hearing your story.

72: Mike Etgen — Adults Don't Always Have the Answers

When the questions about the one true faith don't arise, life can go on untroubled. Once you realize those who weren't on your side were going to Hell, that's where the trouble starts.

Mike Etgen told this story on February 1, 2018, when the themes were based on the stories told in the book The Smell of Other People's Houses by Bonnie-Sue Franklin.
